Commissioned to Disciple

Guest Speaker: Pastor Jason Harris – PM Sermon

Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20

As Christ prepares His ascension to the Father all authority in heaven and earth is placed behind this final command: A call to fellowship with the Trinity in the work of making disciples of Jesus Christ.

Worship the King

Pastor Matt Tarr – An exposition of Matthew 2:1-12

– The birth of Christ had been met with indifference and even outright rejection by Israel. And yet, a group of magi from Medo-Persia were not only diligently looking for the coming of Messiah, but they diligently sought Him out to worship Him upon recognizing His coming. In light of this passage about a group of heretical Gentiles giving more attention to the Advent than the hyper-religious Jews, the Christian is challenged to ask themselves whether they simply know of Jesus, or if they actually worship Him as He deserves.

The Conception of the Messiah

Pastor Matt Tarr – An exposition of Matthew 1:18-25

– The virgin conception and birth of Jesus Christ is one of the most important doctrines in the Christian faith, as only One who is fully God and fully man could be capable of bringing the salvation that God offers us through the sacrifice of our Lord. In this study of Christ’s genealogy, which proves His lineage as King, and n the miraculous events surrounding His conception, we are given the greatest reason for joy during the Christmas season.

Consider the Cross

HPBC Deacon: Mike Griego – An exposition of Matthew 27:27-50

– In this sermon, we are reminded that our lives should be dominated by thoughts of the cross, and through an exposition of the Gospel of Matthew, Deacon Mike Griego takes us to the crucifixion and challenges us to remember all that Christ had to endure so that we might be saved.

Knowing and Obeying Jesus

HPBC Elder: Josh Longmore – An exposition of Matthew 7:13-29

– Jesus makes a shocking statement in Matthew 7 when He says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.” It then becomes a question of how we know for certain that we know Jesus. An expositional study of these passages and supplemental texts shows us that it is by our obedience to God that we know we belong to Him.

The Cup

Guest Speaker: Caleb Abernathy – An exposition of Matthew 26: 36-46 (including supplemental passages)

– On the night Christ was betrayed, He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. There, Christ prayed with regard to the cup of God’s wrath which is to be poured out upon all sin, but which Christ Himself drank down to the dregs through His perfect, substitutionary sacrifice on the cross. Through this prayer, we see a beautiful picture of the heart of our Savior.
