Apart from the Law

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of Romans 3:21-31 (incl. supplemental passages)

– In the early chapters of Romans, we learn that we are all sinners with no hope of saving ourselves. However, God doesn’t rely on us to save ourselves; He has done all of the work in our salvation, and it’s here, in Romans 3, that we see a vivid description of that saving work and it’s distinctness from the Law.

Living Under the Law

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of Romans 2 & 3

– Is there any salvation to be found in the law? Are those who practice the law somehow better off than those who do not? How does the law fit into God’s divine Plan? These questions arise in the book of Romans, as do the answers given by the apostle Paul.

The Cup

Guest Speaker: Caleb Abernathy – An exposition of Matthew 26: 36-46 (including supplemental passages)

– On the night Christ was betrayed, He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. There, Christ prayed with regard to the cup of God’s wrath which is to be poured out upon all sin, but which Christ Himself drank down to the dregs through His perfect, substitutionary sacrifice on the cross. Through this prayer, we see a beautiful picture of the heart of our Savior.

God’s Righteous Judgment

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of Romans 2:1-16 (including supplemental passages)

– God has many unchanging attributes. He is loving, forgiving, eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, et al. What many often forget or overlook, however, is that God is also righteous and just. In the end, all will stand before His thrown to face His righteous judgment. In that moment, the question becomes: How will we be judged?

Rejecting the Revealed God

The sermon for May 5th, 2013 will not be posted on the SermonCast. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Copies are available to members of High Point Baptist Church upon request.

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of Romans 1:18-32

– God has revealed Himself to humanity in a number of ways, such as through His revealed Word and also through general revelation present in creation. These revelations are the only way for us to know who He truly is and what He has done. Yet there are those who chose to reject Him, and that rejection bears consequences in their lives.

The Content of Christianity

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of Romans 1

– When it comes to Christianity, content is key. The style of music, the preaching style of the pastor, the quality of the building the church is housed in, etc. are all secondary to the actual content that is being delivered by those means. In the Letter of Paul to the Romans, we see why, exactly, content is so important.

The Purpose of Spiritual Gifts

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of 1 Corinthians 12, 13, & 14

– There are many spiritual gifts apportioned by the Holy Spirit, but what is the actual purpose of these gifts? How do we know a gift is from God? How are gifts to be used? What is the most important thing to consider concerning spiritual gifts? Do spiritual gifts still exist today? In this sermon, we are presented with Scriptural answers to these questions as we acquire a better understanding of spiritual gifts and their relation to the life of the Christian and the Church.

The Recipients

Guest Speaker: Pastor Tim Weeks – An exposition of 1 Peter 1:10-12

– That of which the prophets searched and inquired carefully about, that Word announced through those who preached by the Holy Spirit, and that thing into which angels long to look, is the Gospel of which we are the recipients.

Loving God for Who God Is

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of the Book of Job

– Christians may often find that they love God, but not for the right reasons. We love Him because He gives us things, takes care of us, provides for us, and sustains us. We love Him when things are going well for us. However, Job demonstrates a completely different type of love that we should have toward our Heavenly Father.

Is There a Resurrection?

Pastor Joe Schloegel – An exposition of 1 Corinthians 15 (incl. supplemental passages)

– Easter Sunday 2013

– “Is there a resurrection?” This was a question debated amongst the Jews in Christ’s time, and even amongst Christians in the early Church Age. To this day, the sentiment behind this question still exists. But what does God tell us in His Word?
