Death Plans

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Scripture: Mark 14:1-9

As Jesus concludes His Olivet Discourse, plans to betray and crucify Him are gaining traction. Of course, even plans to crucify Christ don’t contradict God’s plan, as a flashback to just a few days earlier shows that God was preparing His Son for burial even before He entered Jerusalem.

All the Creatures Be Stirring

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Scripture: Mark 13:32-37

Every Christmas Eve, children from around the world wait eagerly in expectation of a mythical gift-giver’s annual advent, and he can only come once the children are sleeping. But Christ’s second advent will be different in every way. His return is no myth, and we will not know the day or the hour it will be. And furthermore, we will not want to be asleep in the Lord’s service when He returns!

The Birth of the King

Pastor Matt Tarr

Candlelight Service 2016

Scripture: Micah 2:1-9

On the doorstep of a Babylonian conquest when all would appear to be lost due to Judah’s sinful rebellion against God, God informs His people through the prophet Micah that He will still be faithful to His promises, sending hope in a ruler to be born in Bethlehem.

A Deciduous Christmas Tree

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Scripture: Mark 13:28-31

Every Christmas, families across America and around the world enjoy a favorite holiday tradition—decorating the Christmas Tree in celebration of Christ’s first Advent. But toward the end of Jesus’ Olivet Discourse, He identifies another kind of Advent tree in anticipation of His glorious return.

Christ’s Glorious Return (Part 2)

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Scripture: Mark 13:24-27

A lot has been said about Christ’s second coming – many even denying a bodily return of our Lord. So what exactly did Jesus mean when He said, “After that tribulation… they will see the Son of Man coming?” If we understand the nature of the tribulation Jesus refers to, then we will have a much better understanding of what His glorious return must be.

The Cure for Your Depravity (Part 1)

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: Psalm 51

More often than not, when we are confronted with our sin, we do not respond in a way that is honoring to God. Either we blame-shift, and seek to make less of our moral culpability, or perhaps we cavalierly ask the Lord for forgiveness. But in Psalm 51 we see one of the best examples of a truly repentant heart in Scripture.

Seekers or Suppressors? (Part 2)

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: Psalm 14

While many would believe that men are basically good in their hearts, the opening verses of this psalm presents God as one who searches throughout the whole earth to find just one man who would seek Him. But what God sees instead is that every man is a practical atheist, living as though He didn’t exist. None seek Him, all are useless, and therefore all stand under His judgment.

The Tribulation (Part 2)

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Scripture: Mark 13:14-23

Jesus describes the age of the church as one marked by turmoil, insecurity, and persecution, and yet none of those things means the end has come. So what exactly will it look like when the time of Christ’s return is near?
