The sovereignty of God is one of the most comforting and freeing aspects of God’s character, but it also happens to be the character many people struggle with the most. It is not because God’s sovereignty isn’t clearly taught however. Rather, the fact that most have no problem accepting God’s absolute sovereignty over creation, but only as it relates to salvation, ultimately reveals that the real struggle is with our fleshly desire for independence.

Is it possible to believe in the life of Christ while denying His resurrection without consequences? Can we really believe Jesus simply gave us a moral code to live by as He stood against the hypocrisy of His day? Or, can we affirm the Resurrection while adhering to a philosophical system that denies the essence of our faith? Paul argues adamantly no, and provides us with four serious consequences for denying the Resurrection.

When George Whitefield’s brother came to salvation, he declared, “What precious Scripture! And how is it that it comes with such force to me? I bless God for that, then He will save me. I trust my soul in His hands; He has forgiven me.” How is it that such a man could obtain forgiveness? How can any man be reconciled to God with our debt is infinitely unpayable because of our sin? Paul gives the answer: only if God pays our debt.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
After fourteen chapters correcting the conduct of the believers in Corinth, Paul then writes to correct a serious doctrinal error for the first time in his letter. The church in Corinth was beginning to compromise its study in the Word of God because of the influence of worldly philosophy. However, Paul gives three facts concerning the Gospel truth that prove why Jesus’ Triumphal Entry is triumphant.
