Sin, and How We Deal With It

HPBC Elder: Tom Joyce – PM Sermon

Scripture: Selected Scriptures

What is Sin? Where does it come from? How do we deal with it? The world’s ideas about sin are contrasted with what the Bible and Church Fathers have to say about it, and it is only through a full knowledge of the nature of sin that we can hope overcome its effects in our life.

The Birth of the King

Pastor Matt Tarr

Candlelight Service 2016

Scripture: Micah 2:1-9

On the doorstep of a Babylonian conquest when all would appear to be lost due to Judah’s sinful rebellion against God, God informs His people through the prophet Micah that He will still be faithful to His promises, sending hope in a ruler to be born in Bethlehem.

A Mighty Fortress

Pastor Darren Wiebe – AM Sermon

Scripture: Psalm 46

When we are faced with trials, no matter how trivial, we must remember that the Lord is a solid rock and a place of refuge for those who turn to Him. Knowing then, that God will not allow us to be moved, what do we have to fear?

The Centrality of the Preached Word

Jim Zieger – AM Sermon

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:1-12

The preaching of the Word of God is the ultimate form of worship in the Church, and therefore it should be the center point of every ministry. From reading the book of Nehemiah, we can apply five qualities of preaching the Word that is desperately needed in churches today, where the vitality of preaching is often overlooked.

God Our Father

Tom Joyce – PM Sermon

Scripture: Selected Scriptures

While no one argues that God transcends gender, is it right to dismiss the many references to God as Father simply because it makes us uncomfortable or doesn’t fit out agenda?  In this sermon, we look at several passages that give us a glimpse of the One to whom we pray “Our Father.”

Sacrifices: Temporal and Eternal

Greg Lynch – AM Sermon

Scripture: Selected Scriptures

This sermon by Greg Lynch takes a cursory look at sacrifices in both the Old and New Testaments, but especially emphasizes those found in the Old, providing background on what a covenant actually is and dealing with the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants, and reviewing the three aspects of the Mosaic Law (the moral, the civil, and the ceremonial). The lesson considers a definition of the term “type,” and then methodically proceeds through an examination of the types of Christ found in the tabernacle and its furniture, the Levitical and Melchizedekian priesthood, and the temporal offerings in Israel’s sacrificial system, finally pointing toward the “eternal sacrifice” of Christ.
