God’s Gospel Foolishness (Part 3)

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture:  1 Corinthians 1:21-29

The church in Corinth was failing as a church, but it wasn’t because they had errant theology or the wrong gospel. Rather, their theology and gospel proclamation was simplistic, and their philosophy of ministry was entertainment driven. However, Paul explains God’s design for the proclamation of His gospel.

God’s Gospel Foolishness (Part 2)

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18-20

The church in Corinth was failing as a church, but it wasn’t because they had errant theology or the wrong gospel. Rather, their theology and gospel proclamation was simplistic, and their philosophy of ministry was entertainment driven. However, Paul explains God’s design for the proclamation of His gospel.

God’s Gospel Foolishness (Part 1)

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18

While the church in Corinth may not have compromised on the actual content of their gospel message, they exchanged God’s design to bring the lost to salvation by the foolishness of the message preached, with a man-centered approach that was acceptable and entertaining to the Greeks.

Conflict and Division

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:10-17

Every which way we turn, there seems to be conflict. Factions and dissentions over petty disagreements poison relationships and destroy the flock of God. The church in Corinth was no different, and Paul gives careful instruction on the importance of Christian unity.

Why You Should Love the Church

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:4-9

As Paul begins his letter to the church in Corinth, there is an important lesson for the believer today. No matter how bad or weak a church is, if it is indeed a church, we can express authentic love and thankfulness for the graces God has given them.

A Reason to Love the Church

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9

The church in Corinth had every resource available to be a faithful and mature congregation. Instead, it was marked by sin, immaturity, and pride. Nevertheless, as Paul opens his letter, he expresses authentic love and thankfulness not because of who they are, but because of Christ in them.

For the Love of Christ and the Church

Pastor Matt Tarr – PM Sermon

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:1-3

Paul writes to the church in Corinth, where he once spent eighteen months ministering and equipping the flock. But now they had adopted an easy-believism gospel, and looked more like the world than saints of God. Now, as is the case with many churches, they were in desperate need of revitalization!

Why the Resurrection Matters

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Easter Sunday 2016

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-19

Is it possible to believe in the life of Christ while denying His resurrection without consequences? Can we really believe Jesus simply gave us a moral code to live by as He stood against the hypocrisy of His day? Or, can we affirm the Resurrection while adhering to a philosophical system that denies the essence of our faith? Paul argues adamantly no, and provides us with four serious consequences for denying the Resurrection.

Why the Triumphal Entry is Triumphant

Pastor Matt Tarr – AM Sermon

Palm Sunday 2016

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

After fourteen chapters correcting the conduct of the believers in Corinth, Paul then writes to correct a serious doctrinal error for the first time in his letter. The church in Corinth was beginning to compromise its study in the Word of God because of the influence of worldly philosophy. However, Paul gives three facts concerning the Gospel truth that prove why Jesus’ Triumphal Entry is triumphant.
